Van Ingen Art Library, Vassar College
Poughkeepsie, NY
The Van Ingen Art Library was built in 1937 as an addition to the library in Thompson Hall at Vassar College. It houses the art collection as well as facilities for art and architecture students. The modern design and color scheme of the interiors contrasts with the Gothic Revival-style envelope of the building. SUPERSTRUCTURES was retained to perform an interior finishes investigation. Over 80 samples were taken and reviewed as part of the investigation, and included walls, baseboards, mounting rails, flooring, tabletops, and chairs. Original finishes were identified and matched to colors from the Munsell Standard System of Color Notation and their closest Benjamin Moore color equivalents.
